If It’s Free, It’s For Me!

OK – Show of hands… Who hates paying for apps?  ME ME ME!!  It is one of my least favorite things to do.  In fact, I hate it so much, that I have 40 bucks worth of iTunes gift cards loaded into my account from about 3 Christmases ago.  Even if its a GIFT, I hate paying for apps.

The remedy I have for this is two-fold.  Due to my very, very minor O.C. (I leave off the D because I do not consider it a disorder), each and every day, sometimes more than once, I use 2 FREE apps that help me with my cheapness.  These particular apps monitor the Apple App Store for price drops.  There are several apps like this out there, but I’ve settled on these two since they seemed to have the most good ratings and are the easiest to use – and they also fill my needs.

The first is called AppsGoneFree created by AppAdvice.com.  As stated by the description, it helps you find great apps without spending a dime – which is right up my alley.  Every day, they have a short list of decently popular apps that have had their prices slashed down to NOTHING.  I like this one because I’m not overwhelmed with a huge list of 4000 apps that just went free.  According to the developer, the apps that make the list are “expert-picked” and “top-ranked” – which is great!  Definitely one of my favorites.

The second is called AppShopper Social created by AppShopper.com LLC.  This one goes a little beyond just a list of free apps.  You can sort by apps that have gone free and also if their price has gone down at all – which is nice, since ONCE IN A WHILE, I’ll cave and pay for an app I really want… Which brings me to my favorite feature of this one – the WISH LIST!  The coolest part of this app is that it allows me to create a list of apps that I have on my radar.  Then, when the price drops, it sends a push notification to let me know – a GREAT feature.  This way, as soon as my favorite paid apps drop in price (hopefully down to nothing), I can snatch them up.  Awesome, awesome, awesome.  The app also has a bunch of other features that I don’t use and won’t bore you with – but apparently you can add your friends and share lists of your favorite apps or something.  I actually have the older version of this app that doesn’t include that feature – but they want you to use the new “social” one now – which is fine.  You don’t have to use those particular features.

So that about sums it up.  Two great apps that allow me to continue to be cheap.  Remember – If you gotta pay, GO AWAY!
